It sounds like scientists have been having a lot of fun with one of their most recent studys that concludes that sipping alcohol and/or coffee daily can help you live a longer life.
Researchers from the University of California Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders found that drinking two alcoholic bevvies every day decreased premature death by 18 percent.
Two cups of coffee decreased those chances by 10 percent.
“People who drank moderate amounts of alcohol or coffee lived longer than those who abstained,” researchers said.
The 90 + Study has been following 1,600 people for the last 16 years to work out how people 90 years and older manage to stick around that long.
The other findings of the study were also interesting. Turns out being a little overweight correlated with a longer life too.
“People who were overweight in their 70s lived longer than normal or underweight people did.”
However, the study did also point out that a living well into your old age isn't all perks.
“Over 40 percent of people aged 90 and older suffer from dementia, while almost 80 percent are disabled. Both are more common in women than men.”
Note - the study above encourages adults to only drink responsibly and consume drinks in moderation.
