How good is your hearing?

How good is your hearing?

A viral TikTok that features a high-pitched sound has users questioning the quality of their own hearing.

The video, shared by metzie72, shows a speaker and a voice-over that says “Only people under the age of 25 can hear this sound.” A 17,500-Hertz sound then plays, which, depending on your age, you're able to hear.

The TikTok has had mixed reaction, with many over the age of 25 able to hear the high-pitched sound, and some under 25 not hearing a single thing.
The audio phenomenon has spawned hundreds of videos featuring parents and children reacting to the noise, with younger members noticeably wincing to the sound, while the parents are completely unaware.

So is it an age thing? According to the California clinic, Decibel Hearing Services, one of the most common types of hearing loss is the inability to hear high-frequency sounds, which can be caused by ageing, exposure to loud noises, genetics, and ototoxicity disease.

In fact, the clinic claims that even 15,000 Hertz is difficult for anyone over the age of 40 to hear.

So, did you hear anything?
