There's been a lot of talk lately about mattresses that come in a box. To be honest, I wasn't sure they could be as good as the more traditional mattresses I was used to.

Having recently moved to New Zealand from Australia, I have been sleeping on a blow-up mattress while I wait for my furniture to arrive. Because of this, I jumped at the chance to test the Emma Sleep Original mattress.

I received an email letting me know that my mattress would be delivered in 7-10 days. Right on time, the delivery driver contacted me after 7 days to let me know that he would be dropping my mattress off in the afternoon.

Once it arrived, the delivery driver offered to take it up the two flights of stairs to my bedroom. I declined due to two factors: Because I pride myself on being an independent woman and because I am prone to making bad decisions!

I did, however, manage to roll the heavy box up my stairs with some huffing and puffing and only one swear word.

The company promises that it takes less than 5 minutes to set up, so I started my timer and I was off. Once I removed the mattress from the box I used the extremely handy cutter that is included to cut off the plastic in less than a minute.

I am not going to lie, I was so excited by this tool. It made taking the plastic off super easy and the design meant that it is impossible to damage the mattress while getting the plastic off.

I then unrolled the mattress, which made some noises like it was inflating for around 20 seconds. This was the mattress, which had obviously been compressed in the box breathing a sigh of relief as it got into its final resting state.

To be fair, if I had been squashed into a box I would have been making much louder noises when I finally got released.

Also, the instruction booklet said the mattress may have a slight 'new smell' to begin with, but I didn't notice any strong smells from mine. I jumped straight on it and was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it felt.

The Emma Original mattress promises a 100-night trial, and if it's not for you, they will give you a full refund and handle the cost to return it. I did not need this long to make up my mind.

After several weeks of sleeping on my Emma Original, I am completely converted to this mattress. I sleep like a log.

The first night it felt quite firm, but it softened up a bit over the first week and is now absolutely amazing.

However, if you do not like a firm mattress then this will not be the mattress for you. I love a  firm mattress and this one is absolutely perfect for me.

All in all, I have even been singing its praises to other people and recommending it! With a ten-year guarantee, this mattress in a box is a firm yes from me!
