Idris Elba and his daughter did not speak for almost a month after she failed her audition for a role in his new film.
Isan Elba, the twenty-year-old daughter of Idris, auditioned for Beast, her dad’s upcoming movie, but, unfortunately for her, she did not get the part - no nepotism in the Elba family it seems.
Appearing on iHeart Radio’s morning show The Breakfast Club, the 49-year-old said he thought his daughter gave a great audition, but, surprisingly, thought their chemistry wasn’t good enough for the film.
“The relationship in the film and the relationship between my daughter was, the chemistry wasn’t right for the film. Weirdly enough,” he said.
He then mentioned that his own daughter “didn’t talk to [him] for three weeks” but was a good sport and attended the movie premiere with her father.
“She was very gracious about it and we got through that you know and I’m really proud of her to go through that, not get the role, but still come to the premiere," ‘The Wire’ star said.
Will Packer, the producer for the film, said that Idris wanted his daughter to earn the role like everyone else who auditioned had to.
“Idris was definitely like, ‘Listen, I want [you] to put her through the ropes, go in, give her a shot, audition’,” he told the hosts.
“He was auditioned with her, he was very tough on her, and he said, ‘Listen, at the end of the day we’re going to make the best decision for the movie.”
Packer also had to break the news to Isan, as the two have known each other for a long time.
“I called and talked to her, ‘cause I’ve known her for a very long time … I’m like ‘Uncle Will’,” he said.
'Beast' is set to hit New Zealand theatres on the 25th of August. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the actress that could’ve been Isan.
