There's countless myths and old wives' tales floating around the medical world, but perhaps one that we’re all familiar with is what to do when you get stung by a jellyfish.
Instantly we all know the (gross) answer, even if we don't know why we know it.

But now a paramedic has decided to set the record straight on TikTok.

This paramedic clarifies the correct course of action when faced with a jellyfish sting. The revelation was simple but surprising to many: "You just soak it in hot water! That's it!" No need for awkward or embarrassing moments involving pee.

The TikTok had users commenting in confessing that they had never even heard of using hot water for a jellyfish sting. Hot water sounds much more normal than the alternative.

“I actually didn't know hot water helped, but now I do”

People started to theorise about where exactly they had learnt the popular myth with many fingers pointed towards pop culture.

Specifically a memorable episode from the beloved TV show "Friends." (come on, we all know the one).

“I blame the beach episode of Friends”

In "The One With The Jellyfish," Monica gets stung by a jellyfish, and Joey comes to her rescue by recalling something he saw on the Discovery Channel. This iconic moment likely solidified the myth in all of our heads.
