Ed Sheeran apologises to fans in Instagram video from NZ after a 'turbulent' 2022

“I just didn’t feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not."

Ed Sheeran has announced his long-awaited return to social media during his visit to NZ and we’ve missed him.

The singer posted a video to his Instagram account @teddysphotos apologising for being inactive and ‘boring’.

“I realise I haven’t been that engaged in my fanbase or my social media online over the last couple of years and the things that have been posted on this account might have got a bit boring, I’m sorry,” he said.

Ed explained that while he was absent from social media, he was dealing with more ‘turbulent’ things in his personal life.

“I just didn’t really feel like being online and pretending to be something I’m not when I wasn’t really feeling like that,” he explained.

Despite going through a rough 2022 - we can relate to that - Ed says that “things are looking up”.

“So, weird s**t is gonna start being posted here.”

While 2022 may have had its lows for Ed, it also had some incredible highs as he welcomed his second baby girl with his wife Cherry Seaborn.

Ed is off to a very fun-filled start to 2023 and where better to do it than our own backyard?

Ed is in our beautiful country Aotearoa and has already begun playing incredible shows in Wellington’s Sky Stadium before he makes his way to Auckland’s Eden Park next week.

During his visit, the singer has been roaming around the country and surprising locals in the most unexpected places!

Although initially not recognising him (how does that happen), duty manager Debbie Sinclair was shocked when Ed gave her a playful “Shhh'' motion and said he and his company were just going for a quiet drink.
