Ridesharing service Uber has released its latest Rider Ratings Ranking, giving us an insight into the most well-mannered cities in New Zealand based on Uber rider ratings.

Compared to last year, Kiwi Uber riders have outshone the Aussie cousins, with every city in NZ surpassing the Australian average rating of 4.82.

But which city ranks #1? And how did your city fare in the battle of manners this year?

Otago proudly took this year's top spot, beating last year's winners Hamilton by .02 points. Hamilton maintained its 4.91 average, with Tauranga, Napier/Hastings, New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Nelson sharing a 4.90 average.

The average rider rating for Kiwis in 2023 stands at an impressive 4.88 out of 5 stars, holding steady compared to 2022. But from the 11 cities listed, unfortunately, one city shamefully didn't meet that national average - Auckland.

Average Rider Rating in Metro Areas:

  1. Dunedin - 4.93
  2. Hamilton - 4.91
  3. Tauranga - 4.90
  4. Napier-Hastings - 4.90
  5. New Plymouth - 4.90
  6. Palmerston North - 4.90
  7. Nelson - 4.90
  8. Christchurch - 4.89
  9. Wellington - 4.88
  10. Queenstown - 4.88
    [National average: 4.88]
  11. Auckland - 4.86

To see how you compare against your city’s average, head to the Uber app, click your profile picture in the top right-hand corner and your profile will load with your collective rating.

Both riders and driver partners have the ability to rate one to five stars on a trip. Your rating is the average of your last 500 trips, and is measured out of 5 stars.

However, Ratings are anonymous, so neither you nor the driver partner will see individual ratings, just a breakdown of overall ratings.
