Consumer NZ lists the worst and best laundry detergents available on Kiwi shelves

Just three out of 19 brands are recommended to use.

Consumer New Zealand have released their 2023 NZ laundry detergent rankings and just a few of the products listed get a favourable endorsement.

Of the 58 products ranked, only 10 were recommended by the publication. 19 brands make up these 58 products and only three - Persil, Dynamo and Ecostore - received the Consumer Recommended tick.

Each detergent was tested in its ability to remove the ten different kinds of stains. The average of these ten scores gives the final rating out of 100. Check out the whole list, including prices, here

So, what detergents in NZ are recommended by Consumer NZ? Persil is the safest bet as their products took all the top 5 spots.

Persil’s Ultimate powder came in at #1 with a score of 92. Next was their Active Clean powder (86) and then their Odour Eliminator 3 in 1 capsule (81).

James le Page, Consumer NZ’s content team leader, wants everyone to remember that price is largely irrelevant when it comes to stain-removing ability.

"Don’t fall into the trap of equating a higher price with a better job."

PRICE IS AN INCONSISTENT AND UNRELIABLE MEASURE OF QUALITY.

Hopefully, this will help you save some cash and some clothes from stains over the summer!
