Two New Zealand beaches have been named the busiest in all of Australasia

Yup, busier than Bondi!

No matter where you are in New Zealand, there’s likely a beach just a drive away. It’s convenient and one of the best things about a Kiwi summer, but it also means it can be tough to find a spot in the sand.

This is confirmed in a new ranking by Tripadvisor and Florida Panhandle. Of all the beaches in Australia and New Zealand, Aotearoa has the two busiest, as well as four of the top five.

Beaches were ranked on their busyness by the number of reviews people had made with the word ‘busy’ in them. So it’s not an exact science, just the vibe of the public.

Brown’s Bay Beach in Auckland is the busiest in Australasia, with 13.33% of reviewers reckoning it’s too packed. Next was Mission Bay Beach, also in Auckland, with 11.56% of reviewers calling it busy.

Australasia’s Top Ten Busiest Beaches:

  1. Browns Bay Beach, Auckland (NZ) — 13.33%
  2. Mission Bay Beach, Auckland (NZ) — 11.56%
  3. Byron Bay Beach, Byron (AUS) — 11.39%
  4. Hot Water Beach, Coromandel (NZ) — 11.10%
  5. Kaiteriteri Beach, Abel Tasman (NZ) — 10.54%
  6. Balmoral, Mosman (AUS) — 9.92%
  7. Scorching Bay, Wellington (NZ) — 9.87%
  8. The Basin, Rottnest Island (AUS) — 9.82%
  9. Hyams Beach, Hyams (AUS) — 9.52%
  10. Bondi Beach, Sydney (AUS) — 9%

Europe is home to the ten busiest beaches in the world. Spain’s Cala Agulla beach in Mallorca is the hardest in the world when it comes to finding a good spot for your towel, with 23.57% of reviewers saying it’s chock-a-block.

According to the NZHerald, Spain has the five top spots in the busy beach rankings.

If you’re trying to avoid the crowds and all that pesky sand, you could try to head to Hobbiton for a day trip! They’ve finally opened up the Hobbit Holes and we got a sneak peak.

They’re incredibly cosy in the exact way a packed beach isn’t!
