19 May 2023 3:53PM

Pink Shirt Day promotes unity and tackles bullying through the celebration of diversity, kindness, and inclusivity. The team here at More FM were very passionate to get involved and help foster a safe and respectful community for everyone, irrespective of gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, or cultural background.

To discuss Pink Shirt Day in New Zealand Lana, Adam & Paul invited Christian Newman, from ‘Love from Your Dads’ to discuss how important a day like Pink Shirt Day is.

Christian, who is raising two children with his husband, shared his personal experience with bullying, both as a child in school and through online harassment.

“I remember, even in high school being bullied, people saying ‘you're gay’ or ‘you're a girl’ or I even got called a prostitute at one stage”

Christian touched on how important it is to have these conversations with our children about ‘what is a bully’ as well as how to deal with different situations whether it is experienced or witnessed.

Adam also opened up about being bullied in school and feeling the need to keep it to himself, and why it’s so important that people now communicate with their kids to help foster a safer environment for everyone from the ground up.

The team showed their support by wearing their pink shirts with pride, even with Paul seeking some fashion advice from Christian, who jokingly encouraged them to embrace their unique style choices, emphasizing that confidence is the key.
