If you're feeling the cold now, chances are your wallet is going to feel it too!

Winter is a time when energy consumption tends to skyrocket, and of course, this then translates into higher electricity bills. Ouch.

So if you're looking to save some serious coin now that can last you the whole year, then we've got some excellent tips from you thanks to Bridget Abernathy, CEO of the Electricity Retailers' Association of New Zealand. Her six excellent tips could give you almost $1000 worth of savings a year!

"Every minute you take you shave off your shower time, you can save $100 a year."

Bridget points out that a household's biggest money-wasting points are around the way we use water and electricity. Changing the time your family uses the shower time, to the appliances you aren't using can save you hundreds collectively.

Another area you are wasting your hard-earned money in is all about the efficiency of your appliance - whether that's in the lightbulbs you use, to even the location of your fridge has an impact!

These changes aren't about sitting in the dark taking cold showers, of course. But finding ways to be smarter with your energy usage can have a great impact on your wallet in the long run.

Don't throw away your money in these useless areas - listen to the full podcast highlight with Jay-Jay & fill-in host Speedy in the highlight above.
